As some of you may know Ryan was recently LifeFlighted from their town of Moscow ID to Coeur D’Alene because of a blood clot in his leg and an abscess on the surgical site of his recent back surgery, and I wanted to give you a quick update on what he’s been going through.
Ryan has had back problems for about six years, but things got significantly worse last October. An MRI showed multiple bulging and herniated discs, spinal stenosis, bone spurs, and other degeneration, and he eventually needed surgery. The surgery initially helped, but shortly afterward he developed a severe blood clot in his left leg and an abscess at the surgical site, which led to multiple ER visits, hospitalization, and treatment with IV blood thinners. Thankfully, the abscess wasn’t infected which was a huge answer to prayer! As for the blood clot, this is his third one in five years, so doctors are now having him see a hematologist to try to determine why this keeps happening, and he’ll likely need to be on blood thinners for the rest of his life.
He’s been out of work for about seven weeks and still has several months of recovery ahead of him. Because of his ongoing back issues and the risks associated with being on blood thinners, his doctors have also recommended that he consider a different type of work that doesn’t involve heavy machinery, power tools, ladders, or other activities where he could get seriously injured.
This has been an incredibly difficult and unexpected time for Janina and Ryan and their family, both emotionally and financially. With his extended time away from work, surgeries, hospital stays, and ongoing medical care, the medical bills are quickly adding up. If you’re able to contribute, any donation, no matter the amount, would be deeply appreciated and will help ease the financial burden while he focuses on recovering. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this update or keeping him in your thoughts means just as much. Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
