To everyone who has been part of Team Ryan — no words can truly capture our gratitude for the outpour of warmth and kindness you’ve shown our big guy.
On February 7, Ryan suffered a severe stroke caused by an uncommon tear in his carotid artery (a carotid dissection). The disruption in blood flow to his brain was significant and lasted for an extended period. He was airlifted to Toledo Hospital for a life-saving surgery, which he made it through, but the damage to the left side of his brain was unrepairable.
Despite these challenges, we're hopeful for any sort of recovery. The care he has received from his nurses, doctors, therapists and caregivers has been nothing short of incredible. And the love, prayers, positivity and emotional support have been the bright spots we’ve needed — every hug, fist bump, laugh, cry, phone call, text and high five. You’ve given us strength, hope and the motivation to move forward.
Ryan's rehab is in full swing and we’re choosing optimism. A positive future. Nothing but up from here on out. Every step counts. Every thought matters. Every small win will be a reason to celebrate.
So many people have asked how they can help. To support Ryan in the most meaningful way on his road to recovery, we’ve set up this Go Fund Me page. If you’re in a position to give, no amount is too small. Every donation will go toward special resources, equipment, home modifications, and nourishment that might not be fully covered. Any extra funds will be split between a donation to The Stroke Foundation and his son Hayden’s college fund.
Thank you for being such a special part of this unanticipated team. We love you. We’re grateful for you. Let's see what we can do together in support of our buddy whom we care so much about.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Ryan’s family
