RYAN’S NAACP ACT-SO & FS LA FUND
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Ryan Steed and I am a rising senior at Bishop McNamara High School (BMHS). As an active BMHS student, I am involved in several clubs, honors societies (with Summa Cum Laude ranking) and FADE (Fine Arts Performing Endorsement). Every since I was a little girl, the arts has played a vital role in my life. I embrace the arts through visual arts and dance. Currently, I am a member of More Than A Conqueror (MTC) Art Studios, my school's African Music and Dance Program, Future Shock D.C, and Capital Movement Pre-Professional Company. This summer I plan to attend two powerful experiences that will greatly influence my artistic journey.
First, this summer I will be competing in the NAACP Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) National Competition in San Antonio, Texas. I will be competing and presenting in the painting category. Last year I won the Gold Medal at the Local level and competed at Nationals in the drawing category in Baltimore, Maryland. From my previous experience I learned that ACT-SO provides a great opportunity that will help me grow as an artist and leader. I will be introduced to many influential people, teen celebrities, other artists, and peole just like me that I can get to know and share a common bond. In addition, I will attend workshops, enrichment opportunities and field trips that will help me grow as an artist. In order for me to partake in this powerful experience, I must raise at least $350. Money can be donated or can go towards a $35 ticket to attend the Prince George's County ACT-SO Council showcase.
Second, this summer I plan to spend 7-10 days in Los Angeles, California with my dance team, Future Shock D.C. While in L.A., I will be taking dance classes and attending workshops everyday to strengthen my technique and performance quality. I will also go on college tours. This trip to L.A will cost at least $2,000. While my parents work hard to support all of my endeavors, I would like to take the responsibility to raise funds in order to participate. Your donation will assist in making this trip possible.
In all, my summer excursions will cost $2,350. I hope you support me in my extreme desire to grow as an artist. I appreciate all donations.
