Ryan's Fight to Beat Aplastic Anemia

Donation protected

My husband and I have been thrown a curve ball after only 3 months of marriage.  Ryan started to feel “different” about a month ago.  We thought his loss of energy, and fatigued was due to a common cold or flu. Both of us had no idea what was in store after some routine lab work.

It all happened so quick, we were told to rush to the emergency room after we got the lab results back. His white blood cells, platelets, and red blood cells were critically low. He got blood and platelets thinking it would go back up. It barley made a dent. Now we wanted to know, what was causing this? After the hospital stay, numerous blood draws, and a bone marrow biopsy, we now had to wait...

We were anxious, nervous, wanted it to be something small. But it wasn’t. After the hematologist discussed Ryans case with fellow colleges, we were told he has Aplastic Anemia.

Aplastic Anemia is a rare bone marrow disease that stops the production of new blood cells in the bone marrow. Causing fatigue, shortness of breath, among other symptoms. No one knows what causes it and can happen to anyone; he was one of the unlucky ones.

One of the only cures for this disease is a Bone Marrow Transplant.

We were referred to Stanford Heath in Palo Alto, California. Ryan and I have met with a this specialist  at Stanford who has experienced in treating Aplastic Anemia with a Bone Marrow Transplant  We decided to go through with procedure. It will be a long journey with  all of the impatient and outpatient appointment and procedures. It will be about a 4-6 month timeline till he will able to return home..

We decided to try and keep up a blog once we start the process.

We are still waiting for a match.

This go fund me page will go towards medical expenses during/after his transplant, personal bills, ,living close to Stanford, insurance coverage and groceries.

Thank  you for visiting our page and reading our story. Now, Let’s kick this diseases butt!
