The Problem:
Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest Latin American Country (2nd to Haiti) & more than half of Nicaragua’s population of 5.8 million people lacks access to clean drinking water and sanitation, relying instead on polluted streams and rivers as their only source of water. The same streams and rivers that supply water for drinking and cooking are also used for cleaning hand-held pesticide pumps, washing clothes and bathing. These condition results in contaminated water which is unsuitable for human consumption.
The GoBundance Solution:
Our well project has already been started and the plaque for the well (see image) has been made. All this means is whether we raise the $8,000 or not, I am already committed to making this happen :) but I know we GoBros are capable of much more.
This year I have been inspired by my church to stop talking about "making a difference someday" and instead start doing it now! First stop is Nicaragua, where my friend and church pastor, John Harris, founded the non profit organization Compassion Causes. They have a lofty goal to build 24 wells this year. John has worked hard with a local Nicaraguan crew to get the total cost of building a well to $8,000. Industry standard cost in 3rd world country well development range from $10,000 to $15,000. 100% of the funds contributed by GoBundance will go directly to building the wells. My goal is for us to at least complete this one well, but if we are feeling extra giving, for every $8,000 we raise an additional community will receive a well in GoBundance's name. How many can we do?

The Big Picture:
Compassion Causes is working to help change the landscape and future of the Nicaraguan people. Not only do they build wells but they also raise money from separate donors in order run an after school program teaching kids English, Mathematics, and Spanish literature. They also started a surf school to keep kids engaged in healthy activities and become competitive surfers. Compassion Causes does all of this on a shoe string budget and needs as much support as it can get. John Harris does not and will never take any money for all his efforts, everything goes to the Causes. #1 goal is to bring fresh water wells to communities who do not have it and then to educate and empower kids (and some adults) to be the change Nicaragua needs to improve their impoverished nation.
Ryan's Trip:
I will be spending 6 days in Nicaragua and watching the GoBundance well get built and go visit additional communities that also are in need of a well. I will record video and take images to share along the journey for you to see your dollars at work. I will also be working alongside John Harris to seek out sustainable business opportunities in Nicaragua so their organization no longer has to rely on donations for the work they do. For example, there is an incredible coffee farm they work with that has a ton of capacity for expansion for American coffee export. And lastly, getting to know the area to plan an epic VIP trip next winter for a group of guys to go see all the impact we have made.
This trip is only the beginning as I am very confident if we as a tribe work together with our intellect, resources, and connections we can bring incredible change to causes all around the world... I am hopeful this is just the beginning of something extraordinary...
