With a heavy heart, I'd like to tell you about an incredible young man who recently passed away due to a tragic accident.
If you'd ever met Ryan Versteeg in person, it didn't take long to figure out he was proud to be a husband and father of two great kids, Nathan and Maya. He would tell stories about the accomplishments of his kids and he beamed when talking about his wife, Staneli.
Ryan was proud to share his family life with Facebook friends. Those of us who followed him were regularly greeted with proud moments with his family. It is clear that he was a family man through and through.
Ryan was also well-known across the country as a knowledgeable Professional Land Surveyor. He participated in online discussion forums related to Land Surveying and also engaged in surveying-related posts on Facebook.
My wife and I have had the pleasure of meeting Ryan and his family for dinner on a few occasions while visiting in Southern California. We are actually in the area right now and we were looking forward to meeting him at Philippe's in Los Angeles for lunch sometime (it's one of his favorite places to go) -- and then we heard the news. Between our in-person meetings and friendships on Facebook, we felt very attached to him. He's one of those people you never forget and you just want to hang out with him.
We don't know all of the details about his passing at this time, but there are many of us in the Land Surveying industry who would like to contribute to a fund to help his family in this time of need. If you are one of those people, please use this fundraiser as a way to convey that message. We will not skim any amount off the top; the full amount after GoFundMe's fees will be provided directly to Ryan's wife and children to help them with expenses.
