Ryan 'Turtle' Thompson's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On tuesday May 7th, Ryan (Turtle) Thompson was involved in a car accident with a semi-truck on I75 coming home from his new gig working as a Light Technician at Sol Fest in Ponce De Leon and other major music festivals around the country. With the entire roof in the backseat and car totaled, Turtle somehow managed to get a call out to 911 that night before blacking out from the physical damage he endured. Only thing he remembers is escaping the wreckage to make that call. Truly a miracle that he is alive and special thanks to his thick, hard-like, turtley shell.
After rushing him to nearest hospital UFHealth Shands, Ryan undergone 3 extensive, back-to-back, emergency surgeries on the left side of his body. His left arm shattered to pieces, doctors on Wednesday night, less than 24hrs after the accident, began repairing his radius, ulna, and humerus in an effort to save full functionality of his left arm. Thursday night surgeons repaired his left bicep. Lastly Saturday, facial reconstruction surgery in/around eye socket and cheek bone with multiple plates introduced (GNARLY). He has been making amazing progress both physically and mentally with the help of his girlfriend Haley, his family and lastly an unwavering amount of support from friends far and wide, old and new. It is with yalls support that turtle is healing as fast as he has been, bringing a new meaning to the term turtle-speed.
Anyone who really knows turtle knows what an absolute DREAM job his most recent opportunity of getting to VD/SFX/Light Tech for Vivid Sky Productions. His work ethic, humbleness, and words of endearment towards this company/opportunity just go to show you how driven Turtle is for this new chapter of his life and how detrimental of an impact this accident could cause for his future. Which is where you come in.
Although there are ongoing investigations and talks with insurance, from the sound of it looks like the car is not going to be covered leaving both Turtle and Haley with very limited transportation. More importantly, medical bills will be significant. We are not going to pretend that even in reaching our goal will it be enough to cover all of the medical bills but it's a start. More-so than anything, this will give turtle a chance to breath after this major setback, so he's not drowning in medical bills while he's trying to get back to 100% health. To get there he will be attending a minimum of 2 months of physical therapy, also a costly journey.
Anything you can donate will be used towards getting him back on the road and helping with his medical bills during this time of recovery. Any dollar amount you can give towards this cause would mean the world to turtle and his family. He sincerely appreciates all of the kind words that have traveled his way and is humbled by the overwhelming sense of support thus far.
