Ryan fight leukaemia

Donation protected
Ryan was at the peak of his life at 28 years old. We were raising a young family, renovating our home and about to fulfil his dream of owning his own business. Before Good Friday in 2022, the day our whole world started crumbling from underneath us and our future was taken away when he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) with FLT3.

Ryan had never experienced any health issues before, getting that call was this was the last thing we expected. Taking the fight in his stride, the day Ryan received the results he was admitted to hospital to begin treatment.

Successfully able to reach and sustain remission with intense chemotherapy we were preparing for a Stem Cell Transplant in October but didn’t quite make it before Ryan relapsed for the first time. The transplant was rescheduled while Ryan completed a salvage round of chemotherapy before we relocated to Sydney in late 2022 to complete the transplant at Westmead Hospital.

Each chemo round presented a new challenge including multiple infections, long hospital stays, isolation and trauma but Ryan continued to push through and prove his strength and resilience against this aggressive disease.

Unfortunately, less than 50 days post transplant Ryan begun relapsing again and it was determined that the lifesaving transplant was unsuccessful. He was sent home from Westmead just before Christmas with a poor prognosis, one we weren't and aren’t ready to accept so the fight continues.

At this point Ryan’s leukaemia is refractory to the “standard” treatment and too aggressive to see a curative way forward which means all costs are now up to us to cover, the government and the hospital considers extending Ryan’s life is not a priority.

I’ve taken extended leave without pay to care for Ryan and spend precious time together as a family. With mounting medical and household costs the addition of now having to pay for all treatment isn’t sustainable. We never thought we would be put in this position but giving up isn’t an option. Please, as much as we hate to ask, we need your support. ♥️
