Ryan Stagg's fight against cancer.

Donation protected
Ryan Stagg is a high school senior in Gresham, Oregon. One year ago at the end of wrestling season Ryan started having pain in his hip. Assuming it was a wrestling injury he went to the chrioropractor and acupuncturist but after a few days with the pain getting worse he had an X-ray taken. His world was completely turned upside down by the results. A tumor, about the size of his palm, was found in his left hip. After biopsies it was discovered that the tumor was Chondroblastic Osteosarcoma, a bone cancer. In the middle of his junior year Ryan was immediately spending weeks in the hospital receving chemotherapy instead of attending school, participating in sports, and spending time with friends. At the end of the 12 weeks of chemotherapy, scans showed that the tumor had actually grown as well as metastasized to his lungs. Extensive surgery was performed to remove the tumor from his hip, including harvesting bone from his lower leg to graft into his hip for stabilization. 8 weeks of no weight and months and months of physical therapy followed still resulting in a limp. A surgeon tried to surgically remove the cancer in his lungs and found that the lungs were full of small tumors and surgery was not possible. A different type of chemo was next, but after 2 months of chemo the scans showed that the cancer in his lungs had multiplied. His family was told that there wasn't really anything else that could be done with treatment and the cancer would take his life. Shortly after, in September, Ryan was accepted into a Phase2 trial in San Francisco that involved traveling every 4 weeks to California. At first the results looked like the treatment was keeping the cancer from growing, but a couple weeks ago Ryan noticed a bump on his hip and after new scans showed that there are multiple tumors that have regrown in his hip. This resulted in dismissal from the trial. His family is again being told that there is not much more that can be done. They are not giving up the fight through. After consulting with the surgeon, the doctor feels it is best, due to the location of the tumors, to try a trial for 2-3 months and see if he can get some shrinkage of the tumors and then the surgeon will reevaluate surgery options. His family will be traveling to Houston in a couple weeks to see if that can get accepted into a trial there. If he is not accepted there is a trial in St. Louis that will be their next attempt. These trials as well as a future surgery will involve significant medical and travel costs as well as a lot of missed work. His family is so thankful for the support they have already received and continue to be grateful as you help them to fight this fight so that Ryan can truly feel that No On Fights Alone. Thank you for your generosity and support.
