Ryan was diagnosed the end of July 2016 with Philadelphia Chromosome Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (Ph+ALL). It is a very rare form of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). Less than 3-5% of children get diagnosed a year. He is considered high risk. He takes daily chemotherapy medication at home, monthly inpatient IV chemotherapy, and sometimes weekly outpatient. He is also on different medications at home, including shots sometimes to help white blood cells grow. His treatment protocol is for 2 1/2 years.
Ryan is 4 years old. Until he was diagnosed he was energetic, happy, and playful little boy. This illness has taken a lot of that away from him. Ryan has 2 sisters at home that he loves very much. Katelyn is 5 and they have the closest bond I've ever seen, besides twins. Emily is 12 and has been helpful and supportive for Ryan.
With Ryan being high risk means we have to take certain precautions at all times, in and out of the home. I have to sanitize EVERYTHING a few times a day. I'm going through a ton of cleaning products. With the girls in school bringing home germs and Ryan's immune system constantly wiped out, we can't risk him getting sick. A simple illness like a cold, could hospitalize him. His little body can't fight anything off. I am taking Ryan back and forth to the hospital weekly and sometimes more for appointments and treatment. When he is in the hospital and I'm away from the home, I have to sometimes have childcare for the girls. I have medical expenses for Ryan that isn't covered by insurance that adds up fast.
I'm a Mother trying to do the best I can for my children being in the situation we're in as a family. I want to be able to afford and provide everything nessasary for them through this time.
