Our names are Tim and Cindi Jared, Our son , Ryan, took his life on his 35th Birthday November 10th, 2022
In Loving Memory of our Son :
Ryan loved the people of Ecuador. He did two mission trips in communities as their Paramedic. He loved talking to everyone he met.
Ryan suffered from severe obsessive compulsive disorder from the age of 5. As he got older he had trouble with addiction. Ryan was diagnosed with the most severe type of Rapid Cycling Bipolar. At age 19, we were told he would likely take his own life by the age of 25.
Ryan helped others. He thought if he just tried harder, God would bless him with peace. I was Ryan's Mom, but also his number one call. Ryan said, once, "If I can't get relief by the age of 35 I don't want to live".
On the outside Ryan appeared to be doing well, He was highly intelligent, thoughtful, generous, and tormented. We all did everything in our power to prevent this day. especially Ryan.
For far too long this subject has been TABOO. Depression and Mental Illnesses are debilitating chemical imbalances that need treatment.
Ryan, unfortunately, was allergic or had reactions to all of the promising treatments that helped the depression. He tried therapy, treatment centers, and found peace and direction as a Paramedic. Unfortunately Ryan was too sensitive for many things he saw.
We were blessed by many wonderful moments this year, but also the pain of watching him slip away.
Ryan wanted to start working with ARUPO and the Special Olympics, but never seemed to be able to follow through. He was a respected Paramedic at Wesley Hospital in Wichita Kansas for many years. Ryan was also a wonderful and caring teacher here in Cotacachi. He was most proud of Conner Etheridge who he raised and thought of him as his own. Tim and I have been blessed by the number of Students, Drs., Nurses, and EMS staff that have reached out with stories of Ryan's passion and skill, and how many lives he changed and saved. We are heartbroken he was unable to find a way to save his own.
Under the Umbrella of Special Olympics and ARUPO, we will create a project called Kaypi Kani /Aqui Estoy/Here I am, for those most vulnerable to take their lives,
as well as support for their families. Mental illness is a sickness, just like cancer or diabetes. It is a hidden disability that is a struggle for the person suffering as well as their families.
Please help us turn Ryan's suffering into HOPE for the most vulnerable. This will also reach out into the community of Cotacachi. Tim and I will be going to the communities with ARUPO and Special Olympics, sharing our story with our neighbors.
There will be a certified psychologist that speaks Kichwa, and people involved, that knew and loved Ryan and are passionate to carry on his name with a labor of infinite LOVE. Please, if Ryan or Tim and I have somehow touched your life, please, I beg you to help us fund this project. Ryan would want nothing more than to Give back to those he loved so much.
