Help Ryan Get the Care He Needs: Relocation Fundraiser
UPDATE:
We've discovered an incredible apartment in Salt Lake City, Utah, that perfectly caters to Ryan's needs, offering a beacon of hope. Although we were initially denied inpatient rehabilitation, they assured us that if we could relocate to Utah and secure Medicaid, they would welcome him into outpatient rehabilitation, which promises to be a transformative experience. They even provide transportation to and from therapy, easing our logistical concerns. While this opportunity presents several challenges and expenses, we're convinced that with perseverance, we can overcome them. It may take time for Ryan's Medicaid to take effect and for me to secure a caregiver income program, but I firmly believe that if we can navigate the initial six months, this move will be a turning point, empowering us to build a brighter future. Once again, I humbly ask that you consider supporting us in this move, helping to spark a profound change in Ryan's life.
Hello,
I am Ronda Huffman. This is the inspiring story of my son, Ryan Foster. On April 20, 2023, Ryan's life took a dramatic turn when he was life-flighted from Montana to Utah due to a rare AVM rupture/stroke, a birth defect that affects less than 1% of the population. This challenging event has left Ryan bedridden but he has sparked a remarkable journey of resilience and determination. Following his life flight from Montana and surviving a 22-hour surgery, as well as four additional life flights, we spent over a year in the University of Utah hospital. Ryan demonstrated incredible strength, overcoming two post-surgical infections, which required over 20 procedures, including three craniotomy surgeries and three shunt revisions. Although he was not eligible for therapy at that time, we remained hopeful. Many thought he’d never talk again. Subsequently, we were discharged to rural town Dillon Montana into a nursing home, the only facility in the state willing to accept him. While it is located in my hometown, we have faced significant barriers in accessing necessary resources. Despite these challenges, Ryan's determination has driven remarkable progress. He’s talking again and getting his mobility back after two long years but now we have now reached a critical milestone. Ryan is finally ready to leave the facility, but he still requires advanced, hands-on rehabilitation to thrive, which is not available locally or within our state. Ryan has made significant strides over the past two years, and with continued support, he is poised to overcome the substantial challenges ahead. To unlock his full potential, he needs access to cutting-edge technology and rehabilitation services. Therefore, we are turning to you for support. We urgently need to relocate to another state where Ryan can receive comprehensive care and rehabilitation. He is ready to transition from the facility to home, but our rural town lacks sufficient resources to help support him. Furthermore, with our state not having the advanced therapy he requires, we also have been unable to find handicap-accessible rental housing in our area. We have decided that relocating to Las Vegas, where we previously resided before moving to Montana is the best course of action. This move will empower Ryan to access the necessary care and rehabilitation services, as well as reconnect with his family/friends and have a support network. However, we cannot accomplish this alone. Relocating and accessing these services has come with significant financial burdens. Therefore, we are requesting your support. Your donation will help cover the costs associated with the relocation, securing a permanent home, modifications, a wheelchair accessible vehicle for Ryan, medical equipment, rehabilitation services, and any necessary accommodations he may need. Every contribution, regardless of size, will have a profound impact on Ryan's life and his journey towards recovery. Your generosity will provide him with the opportunity to transition from the facility to home and access the care he desperately needs and deserves. Thank you for considering our request and for your compassion and support during this challenging time. Together, we can unlock Ryan's full potential and support him on his path to recovery. With heartfelt gratitude to all,
