Ryan Burgess & Ashley Maready with Medical Bills

Hello, my name is Heather and I'm fundraising for Ryan "Bunk" Burgess & Ashley Maready.

As some of you may be aware, on Monday July 24th, Ashley underwent a scheduled surgery to remove a grapefruit-sized mass that was wholly contained within her left fallopian tube. During this surgery, the left fallopian tube and excess scar tissue from previous surgeries was assessed and removed in hopes of increasing fertility.

The healing process seemed to be moving along as anticipated for two days following the surgery, but on Thursday July 29th Ryan brought Ashley into the ER with excruciating pain. It was discovered that aggressive and rapidly spreading bacteria was present in her abdomen and she was admitted to the ICU for immediate treatment. Ashley went into Septic Shock and fought for 5 days to regain her strength until her surgical team deemed it necessary to perform an emergency and partially exploratory surgery on Wednesday August 2nd to assess the damage to her bowels and to attempt to repair the perforations from the original surgery.

The 8/2 surgery went well and the surgical team was able to pinpoint the areas of perforation, as well as to create a colostomy bag to aid in her recovery. On August 6th, Ashley was able to eat her first (liquid) meal and drink water for the first time in 11 days. Things were looking very positive at this time as her pain was manageable, she was able to get in and out of bed with only minimal assistance, and she no longer required a catheter or nasogastric tube.

Unfortunately, on August 8th, Ashley exhibited more signs of infection and through a CT Scan it was determined that there were at least two additional pockets of infection. She underwent another surgery on Tuesday August 8th, adding two additional surgical drains in hopes that the infection could be controlled by antibiotics and removed via the new tubes.

She has begun working with physical therapy to relearn how to walk, sit, and otherwise be more mobile but these goals will be easy to achieve.
