Hi, my name is Tayla and I'm a vet nurse at Kimberley Vet Centre, Kununurra. Nearly every other week, we receive a call from members of the public - of a stray friendly cat on their doorstep, kittens in the roof, a pregnant cat nesting in a boat. We regularly have litters of kittens surrendered to us because the owners couldn't afford to desex their cats, and now can't afford to take care of the kittens.

Some kittens, we are able to rehome through our local rescue, KANE. But most face a certain fate: euthanasia.

I've held far too many purring little souls, comforting them as they receive their lethal injection and sail over the rainbow bridge. Their purrs become softer and softer, until they are limp in my hands. We've no space to bury every single one - they go to a mass burial at the rubbish tip.

I need CHANGE - not only for my own sanity, but for these beautiful happy healthy cats that are needlessly losing their lives. I want to nip the issue in the bud, and get all these roaming entire cats desexed. I want to help those families watching their cat having litter after litter that end up on the streets; I want to help the innocent members of the public desex the cat in their boat that isn't even theirs; I want to improve our community's health and relationship with these cats and provide an essential support to those who need it.

At first, I pledged to desex one cat per month from my own funds - but offers of donations quickly came in and the surgery waitlist eagerly grew - I realised the entire community of Kununurra wanted this too! We all have a fantasy of a town free of preventable euthanasia, and I believe we can get there (or at least somewhere closer). To me, every cat matters, and if we can prevent even one litter, that's a miracle to me.

ALL funds from this GoFundMe will go via KANE Rescue to offer free cat desexing to anyone that needs it - no questions asked. We can desex one female cat for every $360, and one male for every $250. Oh the lives this can change!
