My name's Adrian, and as some of you might know I am an artist, writer, and transgender man. I am usually not very good at asking for help, especially in a way that is so public, but at this point I don't think I have much of a choice !

I need gender affirming top surgery, and I have been trying to access this care since 2017. I started saving up after I got my first quote in 2018, but consecutive periods of financial hardship have drained my savings several times over. Any other trans people in Australia know that this surgical procedure is prohibitively expensive and that any public waitlists have years-long waits. Over recent years it has become more expensive.

In short, this surgery will change my life. I have been binding my chest for eight years now and I can't do it for much longer. I'm desperate to move on with my life and after exhausting every option I am asking for help.

I am scheduled for surgery on the 16th of February, 2023. My surgical fees must be paid in full by the 6th of February, 2023.

The cost breakdown (in AUD) looks like this:

A small percentage of the fees will be covered by my health insurance and Medicare, but I am still looking at significant out of pocket costs. I am also applying to withdraw my superannuation, which should cover a chunk of the cost if I am approved. Any extra funds that are raised will go towards postop care/recovery, medication, and changing my legal name.
