THE BACKSTORY
With your help, I have a chance to change my family’s future that I can’t afford to miss. My name is Seth Cantu and this is my beautiful family: My wife, Aishah and our two daughters GiGi age 5, and Lili age 3. As you can see, with a family this precious, I won’t be letting them down.

I’ve been a Bible teacher for a little over 6 years in both Arizona and California. From this calling I’ve derived some of the greatest joys I’ve ever experienced and some of the biggest heart breaks. I was first placed in Page, Arizona where I worked 2 ½ years with the Navajo nation. I worked with the native people in bible studies and alongside them on many community building projects. One of a bible teachers jobs is to work themselves out of a job, and so with my contract completed there and I was sent to Lake County, California. I have served here for the past 4 years with the Upper Lake and Lakeport Church. I have also been the acting pastor for a church we have started on the Robinson Rancheria. These churches have opened their arms to me and my family like none other. It's been a joy growing and laughing with them and at times crying. But again it has come time for me to be called to a new location, a new path in my journey.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Through the work I have done with many members of the church and the community, especially during a string of fires we had, I’ve become very noticed. I’m not one to standby when there is work to be done or people in need. Whether it be running an evac center for the fires, and then again for the floods, co-operating a warming shelter for our less fortunate members in the community during the bitter cold, or running supply centers for the people affected by the disasters, I can’t sit on the side lines.
I went to my mentor telling him that I have felt a burden on my heart to go back to school and continue my education towards pastoral ministry. To which he told me: it’s about time! He said he could have told me that 3 years ago but waited till I myself realized my calling. In pursuit of this goal I have been accepted to the Walla Walla University in Washington state. I will be attending for the next three years toward a Theology degree, as well as working for two of the local churches.
HOW I HAVE STARTED ALREADY
Focusing on general studies and anything else that will transfer over, I’ve attended Mendocino College where I’ve maintained a 4.0 GPA for the past two years. Maintaining this high GPA, I have also been invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

So just to assure all the donors, your investment will not go to waste. It’s the best part about going to school later in life, everything carries so much more weight and means so much more to me.
WHAT I WILL BE DOING WHILE THERE
I will be working for a couple of churches as the native outreach coordinator to the local reservation. I’m going to be teaching welding, life skills, and woods craft to the young people. A lot of knowledge and culture have succumbed to the ravages of time. We’ve lost much of the wisdom of our forefathers and I want to take groups of our young people and rediscover with them. I will encourage them by teaching survival training, tracking and history. We have grown men who act like children because we’ve lost our rites of passage we’ve neglected to teach our young men how to act like men. To know what is expected of them as productive members of society. I along with others will work on this through mentorship and by living examples. We will encourage pride in helping take care of the elders, respect for those who came before us, and a respect in themselves and the land.
THE NEED
We are needing funds as soon as September but will leave open for the whole school year. Even though I qualify for quite a bit there are still not many scholarships for transfer students. I’m not one who normally gets help, i’m the one that helps. But I’ve found this challenge quite beyond me. I know that if it is meant to be it will be, and so I swallow my pride and turn to you. Here is a break down of what is left to cover.

Surprise Update - 9/16/2018
Walla Walla University has really stepped up! We got notice that the university has promised to raise an additional $9,000 so that we can attend. This is great news and really cuts down on the amount we have to raise. I have adjusted the total amount we need to raise accordingly. Thanks for all the support, we are not out of the woods yet we still have more to raise. We hope to have more updates in the near future.
