My name is Douglas Rehrer, and on 11/22/17 I injured my lower back at work which left me unable to work for a week. Then, on 12/23/17, I suffered a relapse which left me unable to work due to lower back spasms and pain shooting down my left leg. It was at this point that I sought medical attention to address the problem.
After spending 1-1/2 months in therapy for what was believed to be sciatica, and having shown no visible improvement, I was sent for an MRI. It was only then that they discovered that the disc between my L3 & L4 vertebrae was bulging and pressing on my sciatic nerve.
I continued with therapy until I exhausted my available medical benefits, and was forced to stop as I couldn’t afford the $300/week out-of-pocket expense. In the interim, I applied for worker’s Comp as the injury was work related. Unfortunately, the claim was denied and I’ve had no luck in securing the services of an attorney to appeal the decision.
As a last resort, I applied to the state for whatever assistance was available to me. With the aid of my Doctor, who certified that I was temporarily disabled, I was able to receive Medicaid and continue my therapy once again. I, however, did not meet the criteria to receive any form of cash assistance. I also discovered that I would not be eligible for SSI or SSDI due to the fact that the injury was not projected to last for more than one year.
At present, I have exhausted all of my financial resources and have been using my credit cards to pay bills and for cash advances (they are almost to their limits). Additionally, I have been attempting to sell personal possessions but have only experienced marginal success in doing so.
I am asking for your help so that my 3-1/2 year old Collie and I aren’t evicted from our home, and that I might be able to pay the bills which have accumulated over the last seven months. If I can make it to December 1st, I will be in the clear, as I will be able to start collecting Social Security.
