Colten Jase Carley was born on April 10th, 2015. Due to complications during labor, Colten suffered from Meconium Aspiration Syndrome (MAS). MAS occurs when an infant passes stool in the amniotic fluid and gasps the amniotic fluid tainted with stool into their lungs. This fluid causes a serious infection in the lungs and stresses the baby. Colten's case of MAS is a very serious one. Colten is not able to oxygenate his blood or breathe on his own so he is on a machine called ECMO that oxygenates his blood for him and pumps it back into his body. This was done to give his lungs time to heal through the use of antibiotics provided via IV. There is no definitive time frame currently but all signs indicate Colten's stay in the NICU will be an extended one that may last months.
Colten is a fighter and has a long road ahead of him. We are truly thankful for all any and all support that you can give to help with medical and unexpected expenses during this time.
The facebook page, Prayers for Colten, will be updated often if you would like to follow his progress.
