Dearly Beloved…

Hello. My name is Jayden Dial and I’m currently a junior at High Tech High in San

Diego, California. I’m excited to share that I’ve been accepted into a pre-college summer

program at Brown University, a private Ivy League Research University, in Providence Rhode

Island. This pre-college experience offers high school students the opportunity to reside on

Brown University’s Campus, and to take college-level classes, while interacting with diverse

students and staff who share common academic and intellectual interests. I’m grateful and

blessed to have the opportunity to participate in this program, which is why I’m fundraising money for tuition, room, and board along with academic supplies. This program is a continuation of my higher education journey and academic accomplishments.

Allow me to re-introduce myself…

Currently, I am the Vice President of my school’s Black Student Union, Co-Lead for our

school’s Ambassador program, and I was recently elected to be an Associated Student Body Co-President, in the upcoming 2023/24 school year. Additionally, I am currently participating in two internships, for the entire month of May. I’m an intern at The Old Globe; a professional regional theatre, located in Balboa

Park in San Diego, CA. The Old Globe is recognized as the country’s largest regional theatre. I’m also interning at The Film Consortium, which showcases San Diego’s professional, independent, and student films and produces an annual Film Festival; and has received 5 Emmy nominations in the past year.

Over the past 3 years, I’ve completed 5 college courses (4 courses at USD and 1 at Mesa College), to challenge myself, and in preparation for my collegiate journey.

Some of my extracurricular involvements and achievements have furthered my interest in the arts and social engagement. In my communities, I have worked on many projects that have combined my love of the arts, education, and leadership. I am a producer and participate in a podcast called This Teenage Life. A podcast that cultivates vulnerable conversations about diverse world issues impacting young girls ranging from body image to climate change. For the past two summers, I’ve worked as a Junior Pod Leader, for USD’s STEAM Academy, helping to expose STEAM to underrepresented children and their families, around San Diego, county. In addition to my passion for academia, I am a Creative, heavily influenced by, and ardent about the arts. As a participant in theTeen Producers Project, with The Media Arts Center (San Diego), I’ve written, directed, and produced two short films combining black speculative and historical fiction, and a documentary on the local Fish Market, in San Diego. Moreover, I am a member of USD’s Gamelan Ensemble. Gamelan refers to a percussion orchestra composed predominantly of tuned gongs of various types and metal-keyed instruments. I have played Indonesian percussion since I was in kindergarten and have continued to build on the mastery of instruments I was introduced to in Kindergarten.

I truly enjoy learning and this opportunity will allow me another opportunity to continue to connect with scholars around the nation and deepen my educational experience. The Brown Pre-College program will allow me to expand my knowledge and fully immerse myself in various disciplines such as film and literature that I hope to continue on in the future.
