Prayers for Victor

On Monday morning July 25, 2022 my husband Victor Manuel woke me up in extraordinaire pain, he thought it was indigestion. He was screaming that his stomach was hurting and burning then he couldn’t breath. I rushed him to the emergency roomHe was in so much pain. He was uncomfortable, they had to restrain him to give him shots and tie him down. The meds were not working at all.. He was screaming and crying begging me to please help him. The last thing he said to me was I love you then they rolled him out for testing.. I could see the fear in his eyes. It took an army to hold him down. They did a CT scan and sent him back to the emergency room where they did have to sedate him. They informed me that he had Something wrong with either his stomach or his esophagus they proceeded to tell me that he would have to be shipped to another hospital because they didn’t have that particular kind of surgeon around here that I needed to go home and get things ready and they would call me to let me know where he was going. An hour later they called and told me that they called 27 hospitals and the closest one was in Galveston, Texas and they would have to Air Med him and they were leaving in 20 minutes and I couldn’t fly with them. The Dr called me after they ran several test and X-rays and explained to me that they were going to do emergency surgery on him that he was in critical condition. At 4:00 a.m. the Dr called me and said that Vic had a very large rare in his stomach that it had ruptured. The next morning I jumped in my car, I was in panic mode. I didn’t know rather to go left, right, forward or backwards. When I walked into his room I really freaked out. He had several big machines, tubes and Iv’s hooked up to him. They had to put him on dialysis because his kidneys weren’t functioning right. They had to leave his stomach with a 12 inch cut open because of infection so they also had a Vac in his stomach. The first few days were a blur so many Dr’s, surgery teams, nurses, etc. They told me so many different things that were wrong. They had to put him on The Vent to keep him breathing. They had him so sedated to try and keep him calm but he would go in and out. At that point he would shake his head to yes and no questions, move his toes, squeeze my hand as I asked questions and would give thumbs up. But then on the third day he completely quit. The fourth day a social worker came and for me to sign all sorts of forms and proceeded to tell me that our insurance would not cover must of it because he was out of state. The next day they took him to surgery to close him up but they couldn’t, he was full of infection., the next day he had bacteria and yeast infection. The following day he had a Fungus growing around the area they sewed up., so I finally had the courage to ask the question that I really didn’t want the answer to…. Was it Septic? The Dr said Septic is a very bad word then looked at me sadly and said Ms Manuel I’m sorry but yes it is in the beginning stage of Septic. They continued more test, exrays, scans, etc. and he still wasn’t responding. The tenth day they said his bowls weren’t going where they were supposed to be so more test. I had to go home that day to take care of things. On the 12 th day the Dr called for my permission for a blood transfusion. I was already on my way there. When I walked into his room there were no more breathing tube he looked up at me my with his big beautiful blue eyes and said Babe I thought you weren’t coming back to get me and he had the biggest smile on his face. I was in total shock. He hugged me so tight, the tightest hugs and kisses ever as we both cried. He has a very long road ahead of him with more surgery’s, etc. they said we could be here weeks to months. Physical therapy is now working with him to try and learn how to walk again. We appreciate all the phone calls, texts and especially for all the prayers. Please continue. I will also be up dating on my page. Any donations will help with medical bills, gas, food, etc. my mom is also taking donations at the Ville Platte Country Cub and I have cash app and Venmo. Thank you all so very much.
