Josh's Road to Recovery

Josh's story:
Josh is a 27 year old military veteran.
On Thursday December 3rd Josh was found on the floor of his apartment at 6am suffering from a stroke. He was brought into RI hospital where they removed a blood clot from his brain. While waiting to be stable enough for an MRI to be done, Josh suffered another stroke, this time more severe. He was brought in to remove more blood clots in his brain, but they couldn't stop the clotting. Josh was left with 2/3 of the right side of his brain damaged and unable to move any part of his left side of his body. On Friday morning they found that the brain was swelling and blood was spreading further so they preformed a surgery to remove part of his skull to allow it to swell without damaging more of his brain. Later that night, he then started to develop clots in his right leg (his good leg) and they had to do an emergency surgery to remove the clots. The surgery was a success and they were able to save his right leg.

We are now on day 5, Josh is stable but still very sedated. We have been able to see him over zoom calls although he cannot speak or move, we talk to him every day hoping he can hear us. He has a respirator hooked up but is breathing on his own. The next steps are to eventually get the respirator out, but he is not out the woods just yet so the doctor's don't want to risk anything. He hasn't gained any movement to his left side back so far but he follows commands on his right side. Josh is being fitted for a helmet to protect the exposed brain; the brain is still tight in the surgery area which means there is still swelling.

The doctors have been unsure of what the cause of all of this has been but they have been very good and doing everything they can to figure it all out.

We are looking to raise money for Josh's medical bills, living expenses, and his road to recovery; we know it will be a long one but we are staying positive. There is no estimate on how long Josh will be in the hospital for, the doctors tells us we can only evaluate the situation day by day. Next steps are keeping him stable and getting him well enough to leave the ICU.

Anyone who personally knows Josh, knows he doesn't deserve this. He is the kindest, most selfless person I know. He wears his heart on his sleeve and would take the shirt off his back for a stranger.

We appreciate all help, prayers, and support along the way. Thank you!
