Hi, meet Conner and Chase! Conner and Chase were born with a form of dwarfism called Achondroplasia which means their limbs are shortened and will not exceed much more than four feet at adult height. What ordinarily draws attention to them apart is one of the things that has drawn them together since they were just 3 mos. old!
Conner and Chase are, in many ways, your average, typical boys. And by being 'typical', they love sports and they love to compete!! They live about a half hour from one another but when they get together they like to challenge and compete against eachother. In a world that isn't quite made for their height, those moments become a prime opportunity for competition. An average play date with these two consists of anything from 'hallway hockey', wrestling, chipping golf balls in eachother's backyards, and attempting one handed push-ups. The list goes on and on..........
Having a child with dwarfism, we feel very fortunate to be a part of the non-profit organization, LPA, Little People of America. Every year the organization hosts a National Conference. This year it is held in Boston. Within the national conference there's another organization called DAAA, Dwarf Atheletic Association of America. DAAA allows the opportunity for individuals of all ages to compete on a 'level playing field' with others from across the country to compete at their finest. Awards are given as they would be awarded in the Olympics, from Gold to Bronze. Knowing how competitive these two are, both families know how much pride and self accomplishment would come from a few medals hanging around their necks!
Conner and Chase will be accompanied by each of their mothers for this trip as siblings and spouses root for them from home. Sadly both families have suffered tremendous financial set-backs in forms of medical costs and loss of job for a period of 6 months. We would love to help our children compete not just with eachother but with friends with whom they not only share a diagnosis with but also a dream to compete!
We are hoping to secure funds by the end of May 2016 as the conference is held this July. Registration just opened the last week in March. Funds will be used to cover flights, hotel stay and registration fees for four individuals.
Thank you for considering helping us make this dream come true for these friends!
