Help Macy Fight Cancer

Hi everyone, our daughter Macy was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive eye cancer called Retinoblastoma on September 5, 2019. At 15 months old, her life was forever changed when she fell asleep and wouldn't wake up the next day after countless tries. Although Macy was fighting a double ear infection, something just seemed off so we called our Pediatrician. After taking her to the pediatrician, Macy was rushed to the emergency room at Texas Children’s Hospital for altered mental status. A CT scan was performed and later showed a large tumor in Macy’s right eye. The tumor had cut off all blood supply to her eye and was causing her eye to swell. The tumor was categorized as Type E Retinoblastoma and had been growing for quite some time leaving Macy completely blind in her right eye. The swelling in Macy’s eye became so great, it began to put pressure on her brain which lead to Macy being semi- comatose for the next 5 days. Immediately after getting the cancer diagnosis, we were admitted to the hospital for further testing. The following day, Macy underwent an MRI, ultrasound of her eyes and a Double Eye evaluation under Anesthesia. After multiple tests performed, Macy’s doctors started her on multiple medications to help reduce the swelling in her eye and reduce the pressure along with pain. On September 13, Macy went in for surgery to have her right eye surgically removed because it had become necrotic. Macy was sent home from the hospital to recover the following afternoon.  Approximately 300 cases of Retinoblastoma are diagnosed each year in children under 5, Macy was 1 out of 10 patients diagnosed each year that was completely asymptomatic until the tumor outgrew the blood supply and wreaked havoc on her body.  Since this heartbreaking and devastating diagnosis, we have been in and out of the hospital and doctors’ offices for follow up visits and to continue her treatment. Macy has definitely had her good and bad days dealing with pain and discomfort from surgery. The money from this fundraiser, would go towards Macy’s future care. Macy will need to undergo eye evaluation and MRI scans every 3-6 months for the next 5 years to monitor her left eye for new cancer growth and calcification. Funds will also be used to pay for Macy’s prosthetic eye and genetic testing. Because Macy is still growing, she will need to be fitted for a new custom-made prosthetic eye each year to compensate for her growth.
