MAGGIE'S FAMILY
Donation protected
Maggie Helwig's husband, Ken Simons, a former editor, web designer, and peace activist, is suffering, at the age of only 68, from rapidly progressing Alzheimer's disease. He has reached the stage where he requires care at all times and cannot be left alone. Maggie and Ken have an adult daughter with autism and cognitive delay, who also requires nearly constant care and supervision. Maggie is still working full-time as the priest at the Church of St Stephen-in-the-Fields and is now the sole financial support for her family of three. Both Ken and Simone have complex, and often expensive, needs.
The financial part of this campaign is now over and we are deeply grateful to everyone who donated. The response was overwhelming and Maggie should now have enough to pay for transportation assistance.
There are many other ways to help, mainly involving time. The pressure to do everything for her entire family is immense and frankly too much for one person to handle. We could really use a circle of people who can occasionally stay with Ken and/or Simone while Maggie works, goes to appointments, and runs errands. Please reach out if you have some availability and are able to help.
