Vanessa and I have been trying to get pregnant for the last year. We went through three failed intrauterine inseminations (IUI's), but our desire to start a family of our own continues despite these failed attempts.
Our biggest challenge is that the IUI process is expensive, must be paid in full upfront, and is rarely covered by insurance companies. And unfortunately, our insurance does not cover any IUI treatments. Darn!
For those who are not familiar, IUI works by putting sperm cells directly into your uterus around the time you’re ovulating, helping the sperm get closer to your egg. This cuts down on the time and distance sperm has to travel, making it easier to fertilize your egg.
Before having the insemination procedure, you may take fertility medicines that stimulate ovulation. Semen is collected from your partner or a donor. It goes through a process called “sperm washing” that collects a concentrated amount of healthy sperm from the semen.
Then your doctor puts the sperm right into your uterus. Pregnancy happens if sperm fertilizes your egg, and the fertilized egg implants in the lining of your uterus.
We need to raise $3,274.00 to cover the cost of at least two more IUI cycle to help make our dream of starting a family a reality.
The breakdown of Sperm Bank cost:
Sperm Donor via Sperm Bank: $790.00
Storage Fee (30 Days): $100.00
IUI Vial Shipment: $280
Total: $1,170.00
The breakdown of IUI Medical Procedure:
IUI: $259.00
HCG: $130.00
Injection Fee: $78.00
Total: $467.00
Combined Total for ONE CYCLE: $1,637.00
Combined Toal for TWO CYCLES: $3,274.00
I also would like to get a Hsterosalpingogram (HSG) test, which analyzes the health of my uterus and fallopian tubes. This x-ray exam can help determine if there are any blockages that may hinder my eggs from passing through my tubes into the uterus for fertilization and implantation. It cost approximately $400.00 and is suggested if this next cycle is unsuccessful.
