RV for Penny's Place Safe House Graduate

Project Description

For women who have experienced domestic violence and/or trafficking, permanent housing continues to be a major roadblock. Affordable housing is difficult to find in the Seattle area, and many of the graduates from our safe house have a less than perfect credit record. Our last graduate at Penny's Place visited 28 housing arrangements before she was accepted to one.

We have the unique opportunity to develop a small housing community in a local RV park where our graduates can continue in community with us.

Our Mission

Our mission at Penny's Place is to provide psychological, social and spiritual support that allows for safety, stability and good mental health for women and their children transitioning out of abusive situations.

About Penny's Place

Penny’s Place provides a therapeutic transitional safe housing community in Seattle for women and their children fleeing domestic violence, trafficking, and trauma, where residents may stay for up to 18 months. 

Penny’s Place provides:
●     Safe housing
●     24/7 support and availability
●     Weekly individual counseling sessions with a licensed therapist
●     Advocates from our sister nonprofit, Northwest Family Life
●     Weekly group meetings called Celebrate Recovery
●     Weekly Bible studies
●     Weekly individual meetings with an advocate to work on goal settings, financial, housing, and education planning
●     Weekly dinners and conversations with all living at Penny’s Place
Monthly opportunities to serve in the community as a way of giving back

Impact
Our goal for each woman is that when she leaves, she will be in a place, physically and emotionally, to transition into autonomous living and be self-sustaining, clean and sober, safe from abuse and exploitation, healthy, and with community.

Transition to Permanent Housing

Our guests at Penny's Place do a tremendous amount of self-work when living with us. They meet with advocates and therapists, take domestic violence classes, parenting classes, and sometimes undergo job training or further their education. They grieve, heal, hope, and learn how to build pathways towards healthy futures.

A woman may be ready to move on to autonomous living, but affordable housing is difficult to find in the Seattle area, and many of the graduates from our safe house have a less than perfect credit record.
