We are raising money to help our amazing friends, Chris & Beth Larson. Chris has Poly-Cystic Kidney Disease. It runs in his family. His Grandfather, Uncle and Mom have all had it. His Uncle and Mom had successful kidney transplants done. Thank God.
Back in June of 2000, Chris found out he had this disease by a cat scan he had done due to an accident. The cat scan showed he had several small cysts. At that time he had no symptoms. In October 2011, he was diagnosed with high blood pressure so he started to follow up with a kidney specialist. High blood pressure can affect the kidneys. So they wanted to monitor his kidney function. It was good for 3 years. In October 2014, his creatinine started to creep up so he went in every 3 months to recheck and make medication modifications to see if his kidney function would improve. It did not so, his kidney doctor referred him to have a transplant evaluation done. Chris's kidney function is aggressively decreasing and his doctor wants him to get a transplant before dialysis is needed. His kidneys are about 2-3 times bigger than normal due from the cysts enlarging. This is making him very uncomfortable. In February of this year he was approved for a transplant.
Now to find a donor.. He didn't have to look far as his sweetheart of a wife didn't think twice about seeing if she was compatible to be his donor. She has watched her hubby in pain from this disease and just wants him to feel good again and healthy of course. So she went in and got all kinds of test done and guess what.. She's a match! Thank you God!
The next step is surgery and transplant for them at the Mayo. This will happen in the near future. After the surgery and transplant they will have to stay close to the Mayo for about 2-4 weeks to make sure all is going well. They will both be out of work for 6 weeks. More than likely longer for Chris. They are hoping to bring their fur baby, Jackie with them.
