Would you like to support Rutland sailors skippered by Ben Tylecote to represent GBR at the Youth World Match Racing Championships?

The Rutland based team have been selected to represent GBR at the forthcoming World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championships to be held in Gydnia Poland in July.

They have only just had their entry confirmed leaving a very short window for them to prepare and train.
The team have had success in International events – winning the Europeans in 2023 and coming runners up at Harken International. They were second in the UK Open Matchracing championships 2024 and have taken part WMRT events. In different combinations they have won the National Youth Match Racing Championships 3 times and are current UK Youth and British University Champions. They attended the Worlds in 2023 and hope to use that experience to help them get on the podium this time.

The team is skippered by Ben Tylecote but the strength lies in the extraordinary depth of talent and diversity of experience across the whole team. The other members are Terry Hacker, Freya Pembery, Jamie Tylecote and Issy Leetch – all childhood friends and competitors who have been sailing with each other for years.

The event they hope to attend is World Sailing’s Youth Match Racing World Championships 2025. It is the ultimate head-to-head challenge in supplied boats where no technical advantage can be bought or expected. The definitive keelboat test of skill with short course, dynamic racing. This event will be in RS21s.
They are requesting support to help with entry fees, flights and accommodation. Unfortunately there is no RYA support available so they are completely self funding.

The team are all passionate dinghy racers in the ILCAs, Fireflies and RS200s at National level, with excursions into other fleets including Ben winning the Lord Birkett Trophy sailing an RS400. The team are all strong team racers which they feel gives them a speed of response edge against other competitors. In different combos they have won UKTRA, BUSA , ET and BSDRAs.

The team are all from Rutland SC where they have been lucky enough to get to train and race in the club RS21s sourced for the youth sailors of the club through the support of the JMST.

They are long term members of the club having sailed there since they were toddlers first in Optimists, then Open Bics and continue to sail with and coach the RSc youth and junior teams Terry is also a long-standing member of Aldeburgh where he has sailed with his grandad and other family members

The target figure is to get the team to the event in a good position to do it justice. It includes an estimate for flights, car hire, accommodation, and the entry costs.
