My sister and I's mom, Ruth, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 65 at her home in Saint Louis.

Because she was so young and because she was disabled, there were no arrangements in place. The only thing that we knew was that she wished to be cremated and wanted a celebration of life outside of a funeral home.

Laying a loved one to rest isn't easy, but adding in the financial aspect while trying to grieve is an extra stressor that my sister and I wish on no one.

We want to do right by our mom. If you are able to assist at all, we would forever be grateful and your kindness will not be taken lightly.

Here is a little about mom, so if you didn't know her well, you may get to learn a little about one of the lights of our lives:
Born and raised in New Orleans, Ruth carried the warmth and vibrancy of her hometown throughout her life. Though she made her home in Saint Louis for many years, her heart remained tied to the culture, music, and spirit of New Orleans.
Ruth was a gifted writer whose creative words enthralled those who read them and a skilled artist whose creativity painted the world in new and beautiful ways. Her work was a reflection of her sharp insight and deep compassion for others.

While Ruth was not religious, she believed firmly in the power of love, family, and kindness. Her greatest joy came from raising her daughters, Mariah and Ciara, whom she loved with all her heart. Ruth’s legacy is one of creative expression, unconditional love, unending determination, and the quiet strength she embodied every day.

She was always there to lend a listening ear and gave sound advice, regardless of disposition. Her kindness and inclusive nature lead to her having many “adopted” kids whom she treated just like her own.

In her last year, she went through many trials and tribulations, including an amputation. This never stopped her from being her kind, upbeat, and positive self. She always wanted to see the best in every situation. She is a huge reason my sister and I are so strong today.

I wished we had more time with her, but we know she is looking over her people and loved all of you more than you could ever realize.

Any extra money left over will be donated to one of her three charity choices:
The Humane Society of Missouri
The American Diabetes Association
The St. Louis Society for the Blind
