Ruth's Cancer Journey

Hi my name is Ruth, I've been going back and forth to the doctors for 16 to 18 months now for different things, they told me I had various different conditions, but nothing serious.

In January 2026 I happened to speak to a Pharmacist who sent me to the hospital thinking that I had a blood clot. When I got to the hospital they confirmed a blood clot was found and an emergency CT scan was organised. 9 hours later they told me I had Stage 4 Lung & Bone cancer.

As you can imagine, hearing something so shocking after having been poorly for so long with no answers was utterly heartbreaking. Having to tell my children, family and friends has been one of the hardest things I've had to do.

Although I've been told it's not cureable, I have no intentions of giving up, I know I will fight this cancer with everything I've got.

Due to my diagnosis, I have since been unable to look after my husband who also suffers with health issues of his own. As a result, my son has had to take over those duties as carer.

As well as this, I have been restricted to a neck brace due to the mass on my second vertebrae and due to this, I am now unable to turn my head in any direction and I am also incapable now of lifting things as my neck could snap at any moment without the brace.

I am also now unable to babysit my grandchildren alone because of this diagnosis which has in turn, disallowed them from sleeping over.

In doing some of my own research, I've found that if you go to Frankfurt, Germany the treatment regimes are far different to those in the UK, with a much higher success rate.

I am fundraising to raise the money for at least 3 treatments in Germany, to give me the best possible chance of shrinking this cancer. The treatment is a targeted treatment, something only offered to Liver cancer patients in the UK, despite a lot of evidence which sees other cancer patients including Lung & Bone cancer patients go into remission.

Each treatment is £5,000, I am hoping to raise the money to cover at least 3 treatments.

Any donations, big or small are appreciated more than you could know.

Lots of love,
Ruth
