Up until a few weeks ago my family had no idea what hospice care was, this was probably ignorance - we had never been in this position and hadn’t needed to look into it . At the beginning of March Michaela’s mam was taken into hospital and sadly shortly moved to end of life care . The Palliative care team suggested Willowburn Hospice and, after looking at their website , agreed that this would be a beautiful place for Ruth to spend her final days . After 3.5 days stuck in a side room of a busy ward Ruth moved to Willowburn Hospice . Wow, what an amazing place . From the minute arriving the care and compassion received was second to none - for Ruth and all our family . The beautiful room overlooked a pond and fields, where sheep roamed and the peace and tranquillity surrounded us.
Ruth passed away 2 days later peacefully.
We believe Hospice care should be available to everyone who needs it . Sadly, however , it isn’t . Hospice care is only partially funded by the NHS and government and the remaining costs have to be raised . We vowed from
the moment we arrived there to the moment we left that we would do what we could to help, so others can access hospice care , if and when needed .
thank you in advance
