Yesterday we got word that my Uncle Rusty Walker was being airlifted to Aurora St. Luke’s in Milwaukee for a stroke. We are suspecting his symptoms of slurred speech & partial blindness started Thursday. He was able to drive himself to the doctor as no one knew how serious his symptoms were. From there he was taken by ambulance to Lakeland Hospital where he had some tests and was airlifted to St. Luke’s. He was immediately brought for a CT scan where they confirmed he had an Ischemic Stroke and a small brain bleed. He then went to have a procedure called a Thrombectomy to put in a few stents. The doctors had some complications getting the stent to stay in place which resulted in the procedure taking 6 hours. At this point it is a waiting game to see what he is capable of doing once he wakes up and the extent of brain damage from the brain bleed. He is currently intubated. He woke late last night, was moving his arms and legs, was trying to sit up and was very irritated about being intubated so they sedated him so he can rest. The doctors are saying they do not know the extent of the brain damage from the brain bleed or the damage from the stroke itself but everything is a waiting game. He will be in the hospital for some time and then will have to go to rehab. We won’t have a clear picture on his disability until later when he is reassessed but any disability from a stroke can be rehabilitated to a certain degree but we won’t know for months out. Please keep my Uncle in your thoughts and prayers for a miracle recovery and for my Dad and the rest of the Walker family.
We are asking for financial assistance to help pay Rusty's present and future medical bills along with his household bills to keep him afloat. Any donation amount is immensely appreciated from the bottom of our hearts while we try to navigate what will be the new normal for Russ and our family. THANK YOU!!
