Rusty Erpenbeck and Family's Brain Injury Journey

Donation protected
On March 30th, 2019 Rusty Erpenbeck was brought to the emergency room after behaving strangely and not feeling well. Little did we know that 3 months later he would still not be home.

The ER determined he had a bleeding brain aneurysm. The following morning he had neurosurgery to stop the bleeding. Surgery went well, but the next day he stopped responding. After further testing, his surgeon found he had subarachnoid hemorrhage, or blood stuck between his brain and skull. They could not operate on it, as he likely wouldn't survive. This complication caused him to have an additional stroke on top of the aneurysm.

While we are incredibly grateful that he survived such an intense and life-threatening condition, the road to recovery is long and difficult. After three weeks in the ICU, over a month at Select Specialty Hospital, and now a month and counting at Madonna Manor, we are starting to see progress and glimpses of the old Rusty. You can get more details on his CaringBridge page  where we post regular updates.

I am asking for your help to make sure that my dad continues getting the care he needs, and that my mom does not lose all of their assets in the process. Their income is now only half of what it was, and their disability application will likely be denied.

We have two rental properties that need expensive maintenance: one has tenants and the other will be sold but needs a lot of work before that can happen.

The plan for when Rusty is released from inpatient care is for them to live in the first property. It has a downstairs full bathroom while their own home does not. They need help to pay their bills to avoid having to sell both rental properties and find other living arrangements.

The money from this fundraiser will be used to ensure that my parents have a proper place to live, their bills are paid, any potential attorney fees are taken care of, and for any medical necessities upon my father's release (wheelchair, rehab, medical bills, etc.)
