Rusty Clark Care Fund

UPDATE - 3/27/2019

We (Rusty's family) have sent out updates via email through GoFundMe in the past, but wanted to make sure viewers of this page were also brought up to date regarding his progress. Please know that your prayers and contributions have been invaluable as we have walked through this with Rusty. We simply cannot thank you enough. While he has made some progress, there are still many care needs that are not being covered.

Rusty is receiving 'round the clock care at a healthcare facility in NW Houston, and has made some notable strides in the rehabilitation of his verbal and physical ability. More specifically, his right leg has some mobility, albeit extremely limited. A wheelchair is required for him to move around the facility. He is mentally present and is able to interact with visitors, but still has difficulty communicating in full sentences and clearly enunciating.

Please join us as we pray that his speech returns and he regains mobility in his right arm and leg. Any funds raised through this page go directly to his care, and we are hoping to increase his therapy to address these issues.

ORIGINAL POST -

On September 6th, 2018, beloved husband, father of three, brother, uncle, friend, and minister of the Gospel, Rusty Clark, was rushed to the ER after being found unconscious at home. The doctors discovered he had suffered two major strokes, one was a hemorrhagic bleed on the brain, and the second was an ischemic blockage stroke. Rusty was unable to breathe on his own and was immediately placed on life support, where he stayed six days. CT scans revealed the strokes affected an area deep in the Basal Ganglia region of the brain that is considered to be inoperable.

The effects of the strokes were quite devastating to Rusty. The right side of his body was paralyzed (though miraculously his right leg has progressed to allow some limited movement), he is still unable speak, and cognition is still uncertain. Rusty is still in the hospital recovering and will need to go to a Stroke Rehabilitation Facility to receive intensive therapy to regain movement on the right side, along with his speech and cognitive abilities. We are not certain what he understands and if he recognizes his family and friends currently. The doctors are hopeful that with the intensive therapies that a skilled nursing rehab facility can provide, he can improve greatly.

Rusty’s insurance will not cover any post hospital stroke rehabilitation or medications whatsoever. There is a current need for funds to cover the cost of the rehab and medications out of pocket. Rusty’s wife, Peggy, will have to make lots of decisions in the near future regarding his care. She is a dedicated teacher at a small private school.

We would ask you to prayerfully consider two things. First, please join us and pray for the total restoration of Rusty's right side, all coordination, his speech, and his mental abilities to fully return. Rusty was a vibrant, sunny person who always had a smile and a quick wit. He regularly visited church members in the hospital to pray for them. He was a longtime teacher of the Bible and played guitar with masterful skill. We know God is a healer and can work miracles. We have begun to see His hand at work with his right leg starting to move. Please join us in praying for his total restoration!

Second, please prayerfully consider donating to this Go Fund Me to assist his wife Peggy with the burden of the exorbitant healthcare costs associated with his stroke rehabilitation - including out of pocket payment for the rehab facility monthly costs, medications, special equipment he may need for his recovery, etc...

With prayer and love from family and friends and with God’s grace, we are hopeful Rusty will be restored to total health. Thank you so much for your love, prayers and support.
