Russell's Diabetic Ketoacidosis Emergency Fund
Donation protected
Hi I'm Lottie, I'm fundraising for my sweet boy Russell. He's been hospitalized 17 times in the last two and a half years with Diabetic Ketoacidosis brought on by his anxiety level from his Autism and trauma from all the hospitalizations and being told his illness is fatal if not monitored cautiously. Which now means every 30 minutes at times every 15 minutes , when hos sugar spikes over 400 which unfortunately is quite often.
During his illness I was laid off from a great job and now we are dependent on his late father's pension and my social security. We lost his Dad 7 years ago to Cancer, otherwise he was insured under his father's retirees civil service/military insurance, but when he died we lost the insurance due to our divorce. Now he has Medi Cal. We desperately need help because his doctor has not taken care of my sweet boy he's neglected him by not doing the correct paperwork so that all his prescriptions are covered by his insurance. He's not sent in the prior authorization forms in over six months so I've had to pay for all of his test strips and now insulin pin needles . We are on a waiting list for a new Endocrinologist. There are telemedicine doctors but they can’t monitor my son’s blood sugar close enough. We need a doctor we can actually have a live appointment with. We are working hard to get him that doctor but it’s been nearvto impossible but I’m not giving up! We almost lost him 3 weeks ago he was rushed into the ER and when we got there the doctor saw d it was the worst Diabetic KetoAcidosis case he’d seen in the hospital. My sons temperature had dropped and he was told he was dying if it came to it they asked us about a DNR. I told them to do what ever it takes to keep my sweet boy here! Now he has to be tested not just hourly but the the discharge paperwork says if his symptoms are weakness, blood sugar levels unstable staying between 300 to test every 15 minutes. Insurance does not cover this and we are constantly having to pay out of pocket.
We also have to replace his necessary electrolyte and phosphorus and potassium and the replacements are very expensive.
I spend anywhere from $800 to $1300 a month out of pocket. It's caused me to get behind on all my bills. I have had trouble paying my rent. We have gotten so far behind that we are constantly at risk for our utilities and phone service to be shut off. Before his Dad died 7 years ago he would step in and take care of things, but with his father gone it’s just the two of us we have no family that we can go to fur help!
- My sweet boy blames himself for our financial problems. I've told him it isn't it's the doctor who hasn't done all the necessary paperwork. The water company sent a form to the doctors office but they didn't do it and I can't get a answer for help from anyone at the doctor's offices clinic or the corporate office either. Please we need our water turned on now. He's battling a MRSA abscess and we can't keep it clean enough to get it well. It's been since October trying to get the access healed. Please Help Me Save My Sweet Boy!
