It hurts me to even be making the following statement. On February 25th, my brother Rusty met an end to an addiction he battled most of his life. He was a good man with a horrible disease. I know along the way people were hurt by his decisions and lifestyle, myself, my family and many friends included. I have never been one to shy from these truths, but I knew him before... Before he became lost. He was a funny, smart, talented, spiritual and loving. We went to church together, we fished together, we cried together, we argued, we fought and we rallied. But in the end he still lost. And now many of us hold bits of the pain he no longer needs to hide. I am making this account because I can't see my mother make arrangements for her son. So I hope to carry this extra burden so she doesn't have to. No parent should bury their child. And no parent should have to see the life they created be etched away bit by bit. Through his addiction we loved him. Through his addiction we mourned, learned and grew. I hope that my brother is at peace now. I am just looking for ANY bit of help to ease this for all of us. If you have ever been hurt by someones addiction, I am here for you and I see you. Please, regardless of what your stance is on addiction, drugs, or addicts, be kind. It is someone you love. Someone you love is affected by addiction. Thank you all for reading.
R.I.P. Russell Rollins. Your pain is finally gone.
Celebration of life to be posted at a later date.
