Russ' Journey

This is my niece Rusilia Pena and this is her journey.

Russ was diagnosed with lupus at the age of 9, after getting braces. She is now 26 and lives out a journey that most people could not comprehend or endure. But, let me tell you when I say Russ does, and she does it with such grace and courage. She fights, she keeps her faith strong, and leans on God’s understanding and not her own. Rusilia lives knowing she has a purpose and a testimony.

We are here now because of what has been handed to her at this time. In March she was given some news. Her birthday was in April and her and her husband, Manuel, were finally hoping to get to share the news that they were finally able to start a family. But, instead she had to share the news that she is in kidney failure. Her doctor has talked to her about needing a transplant. Although, sounds easy enough, that is not the case. She, along with her husband and mom have to attend classes, that are out of town. There are tests Russ will have to go through and when/if she is approved, there is a waiting list. Some have been on this list for years. There is a process and a timely one at that. So, with that being said, her insurance, at this time, has told her they will not be helping. We are praying and having faith, that when that time comes for a transplant that the insurance will step up. At this moment she is borderline dialysis, it's just a matter of time.

We are asking for donations to hopefully be prepared and get enough raised to have her back financially. And to help with the burden of any costs that they will have at this time. Her husband does work and has to take time off for her medical needs, these classes, and etc…it definitely puts a strain on things. Right now there’s costs for traveling such as gas, hotel, food and these classes. Not just for Russ but for Manuel and her mother. As they are required to be there as well. They are doing everything they can to be prepared.

We want to get her story out, as this is only, a mere glimpse of it, for we know she is not alone in situations like this. So, please, if you feel led to donate, please do. If you are not able, prayers are greatly appreciated as well and we ask to please share so we can get the word out.
