Rushaga Community School Showers
Donation protected
Last summer in Uganda, Joel and I had the opportunity to visit the Rushaga Community School in Kisoro. It was a wonderful experience. The students were very shy at first, but as Joel was talking to the administrator, I was playing American music, showing the students my not-so-latest dance moves, taking pictures of them and showing them what they looked like on my phone. Before we knew it, they had turned the tables on us and were singing Ugandan music and showing us their dance moves. It was a blast and at that moment we decided we are going to take action to bring them clean water. Last fall we successfully raised $6000 with the help of our friends here in The USA and we were able to build a well, install a pump, and provide clean running water. Now, we want to build a shower facility for them and we need an additional $4500 to do so.
There are 260 students at this school from grades kindergarten to Senior. Since there are very few cars in the area, and the school is responsible for handling all the children from an 8-kilometer radius, many of the students (113) board at the school full time. The rest must walk. For some, it can be up to an 8-kilometer walk daily to go to school.
The facilities are "adequate" by Ugandan standards but we want to build two shower facilities one for boys and one for girls.
