Hey, I'm Kat and I am running the full International Free Press Marathon in Detroit, Michigan. This will be my 4th marathon and for this marathon I am raising funds for an elementary school in Fort Portal, Uganda, Africa.
This summer I had the pleasure of doing missionary work for 2 weeks throughout Uganda, and I spent a lot of time with school children. This school in particular is very special to me.
The Adonai Preparatory Nursery and Primary School is a pre-k - 4th grade school set in a rural area that would otherwise not have access to education. This is their first year open and the school has nearly 200 students. Schooling is not free in Uganda, and with many of the families well below poverty line, education is inaccessible for many. This bright and colorful school offers a happy and safe environment to learn not only core subject areas but also about God's love. The school offers breakfast for the chidren, which unfortunately can be the only meal they eat for the entire day! As a teacher myself, I was impressed with the warm , loving and educated teachers they have on staff.
I am raising these funds to help with their budget of breakfast items and school items including, but not limited to: Posho (a type of porridge), sugar, cups, kitchen/cooking supplies, books, pencils, paper, notebooks, manila folders, chalk, tables for classes, crayons, solar lamps and blackboards.
Because I am crowd funding in conjunction with participating in the Detroit Freep International Marathon, I recommend donating per the miles I am running, a full marathon is 26.2 miles. So if you'd like to support by donating a $1 per mile =$26, $2 /mile = 52, $5/mile= 130, $10/mile =260, or any other amount. I am running the race for those who otherwise would not be able to, these kids are my inspiration!
If you read this much - thank you! And thank you in advance for supporting this awesome cause! If you donate, I will keep you updated on the results of when the school is supplied these items!
