RURAL DOGS IN ZIMBABWE URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP!!

Donation protected
There are millions of dogs in Zimbabwe and, in a failing economy where a large proportion of the population is either unemployed or living from hand to mouth, domestic animals are not faring well. With inadequate government resources, the vets and animal welfare organizations are doing a sterling job, but the burden is overwhelming and they need all the help they can get.

Difficult as it may be in town, we live approximately 30 km out of Harare and, unable to turn a blind eye to the mangy, emaciated little dogs on the side of our road, we realized that we could either swear, despair or try and do something about it. And so, in 2013, Rural Animal Care came into being and it didn’t take long for the scale of the problem to become apparent.

Collecting the sick and injured animals of the poorest people in the communities around us, we take them into town for veterinary treatment, surgeries, chemotherapy, sterilizations and when absolutely necessary, euthanasia. Upon discharge, we either return them to their owners (where we monitor their wellbeing and work with their owners) or bring them back to us for a period of confinement and rehabilitation. Fortunately, the vet allows us access to a reduced welfare rate, but it’s a huge battle because we’ve been self-funded for many years now. However, we’ve seen the suffering in the eyes of these incredible little critters and there's no going back because I simply cannot bring myself to turn them away. With RAC an integral part of the community now, we’re absolutely determined to continue improving their lot, despite the fact that it’s a huge undertaking. Sadly we are no longer in a position to sustain RAC on our own and as we try to meet their needs, we desperately need your help.

With hugest of thanks,
from April and the animals

This GoFundMe is set up in Australia but 100% of the funds will and are being sent to April in Zimbabwe who is already in massive personal debt due to spending her own money on rescuing and helping dogs.

Please be advised - this is a personal initiative and that Rural Animal Care is NOT a registered charity OR business, but it is however a non-profit initiative. It should be mentioned that many other very generous donors have contributed (thank you !!) to Rural Animal Care since 2013 as well as being funded personally by April and Angus Thompson.

We must make special thanks to all the other organisation's, vets and helpers who do similar great work and often in conjunction with RAC, including VAWZ (Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Zimbabwe) - also doing an amazing job helping animals!!

Many Thanks
