My name is Ruqayyah Bobat and I'm asking for help because I am in a tough financial position following a phone scam that occured on Saturday, March 14th, 2025. I have never asked for help before but this financial loss has put me in a position where I feel I have to exhaust all my options. On Saturday night, I met up with an individual from Facebook marketplace named "Joel Zimmerman" to sell my old cellphone (Samsung S25 Ultra) for $1200. This money was to be put towards my owed school tuition and rent (my roommate is moving out and I have to cover rent alone). The sale happened in a rushed manner in the dark outside. When I went to use the money shortly after, I discovered that all $1200 was sophisticatedly counterfeit.

To say I feel immensely ignorant, would be an understatement.

I am humbling asking for help so I can put the money towards my tuition and rent as was the plan. The economy is so bad right now and I live pay to pay like many.

It is taking alot to ask for help like this but I have no other resources. I am already working 7 days a week supporting neurodivergent children while studying for my BA in Psychology. I know alot of people are struggling right now so even if all you can spare is a few dollars, it would mean alot to me.

If any money is raised I will upload proof of payment to my school/rental company.
