Paws Out for Peanut
Hi, I'm Peanut's Auntie Amber!
If you know Peanut, I’m sure you were greeted by lots of kisses and maybe a Happy Birthday howl. Peanut is a 6 yr old Dachshund and currently lives in Austin, TX. On Monday morning, Peanut woke up trembling and appeared to be bloated, so he was rushed to the Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital. They examined him and said that it could possibly be a GI issue but they suspected a ruptured disc which is most common amongst Dachshunds. They gave Peanut some pain medications and a steroid and let us know to return if he experienced any loss of function with his legs since this would be a sign confirming issues with a disc. Later that evening, I found Peanut struggling to get around as he was dragging his hind legs. We rushed peanut back to the animal hospital where they determined they would keep him overnight since his condition worsened so quickly. Even with him probably being in so much pain, Peanut showed just what a happy and strong dog he is. After conducting a CT scan, the surgeon confirmed Peanut had shattered some discs on his back and would require surgery and possibly physical therapy. Peanut’s hind legs were still responsive so they suspect that after surgery Peanut would make a pretty good recovery. Peanut’s surgery, not including any physical therapy that may be needed is estimated to be slightly over $6,000. We appreciate your time and generosity with any help towards Peanut’s medical expenses!
