My name is Jordana Bell. I would love to tell you a little bit about a project I am working on with the charity, Runway of Dreams (R of D). R of D is a great organization, which is run by an amazing woman named Mindy Scheier. I met Mindy when I took one of her fashion classes a few years ago. When I heard what’s she’s been doing, I really wanted to get involved. Runway of Dreams adapts mainstream clothing for the “differently-abled” community. Mindy was inspired to start Runway of Dreams because of her son Oliver. Oliver was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Distrophy and needs to wear braces on his legs. He just wanted to be able to wear regular clothes like the other kids. Runway of Dreams creates adaptable clothing with things such as washable magnets (instead of buttons which are difficult to open and close) to help accommodate different body types. These clothes help those from the different-abled community feel more accepted and stylish, of course. Please watch the video clip I included for more details.
Now, for what I’m trying to do to contribute. I decided it would be amazing to create an actual “Runway of Dreams". This runway will be a 12 x 3 foot red carpet printed with the R of D’s logo. I will be collecting quotes from many parents and children affected by this charity to showcase and print all over the “runway”. Mindy can use this inspirational runway at her fundraising events to raise awareness about some of the ways this charity has helped people and changed their lives. I am excited to announce that my runway will be debuted at an upcoming event, the Runway of Dreams Gala and Fashion show in NYC on June 9, 2016. I have included a link to the invite http://runwayofdreams.org/2016gala/
if you are interested in coming and seeing the runway in person.
“Little by little becomes a lot” so any contributions to building our Runway of Dreams would be welcomed and appreciated! Once I build the runway, I will be donating all additional contributions directly to Runway of Dreams. I will send a photo of the actual finished runway to all who contribute. Together, let’s build the “Runway of Dreams” for children and adults of the differently-abled community. Thanks so much for your support!
