Remembering Romeo - Scholarship

Donation protected
On September 11, 2001, the world lost a beautiful soul.  Kris Romeo Bishundat, who was three days shy of his 24th birthday, was killed while serving his country in his post at the Pentagon.

History of 5K & Scholarship
In the years after that tragic Tuesday, in collaboration with friends, community & school organizations, and Thomas Stone High School, my family has held several 5Ks, to remember Romeo, honor his legacy, and raise funds for a scholarship at our alma mater. In subsequent years, we also established a scholarship at Westlake High School, which was the place of my dad’s employment.

As we were preparing to commemorate Romeo this year, we learned that this year’s 5K was cancelled with only weeks to spare. My family and I have been left with more questions than answers and with the huge responsibility of figuring out how to honor my beloved brother for the 15th year. As a result, we have created a facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RuntoRememberRomeo)
and this site to allow for folks to contribute to his scholarship fund.

We are devastated that this year’s 5K was cancelled due to circumstances that still remain unclear, however, we will not let this prevent us from continuing this tradition.

Who he was
Romeo was born in Guyana and at the age of two, came to the United States with his parents Bhola & Basmattie Bishundat. Soon thereafter, he became the big brother of Danita and Devita. The Bishundat family chose Waldorf to build a family and grow roots. For those of you who did not have the pleasure of knowing him, Romeo was the social butterfly of the family: the one whose smile could light up any room, the party animal, the person who would pay favors forward to random strangers, and the person who would give of himself selflessly to better his community. He enjoyed playing jokes on others just to see them laugh and smile, reenacting his WWF skills on anyone and everyone, playing varsity basketball, surfing, and taking care of his prized possession: his jeep. True to his focus of being in service of others, after graduating from Thomas Stone High School in 1995, he enlisted in the Navy just one day before his 18th birthday. He went on to serve the United States for six years aboard the USS Yorktown and USS Shreveport (visit http://pentagonmemorial.org/explore/biographies/it2-kris-romeo-bishundat-usn  for more information on his work career). He was a champion of education and connecting others via technology.

Romeo was transferred to the Pentagon in May 2001 and his office was relocated to a newly renovated wing of the Pentagon just three weeks prior to September 11.
