On Oct 18th, I will do something I never thought my body or mind could do...run a marathon.
I'm not the fastest runner, nor the slowest (although I might be at the 41st km), I am however determined to accomplish this personal goal that I set for myself last spring.
I also want this run to be dedicated to something bigger than a check off my bucket list, something that I can run for, a purpose, a meaning.
My good friend Alex Larose, who is not only running half the distance with me on Oct 18, but did just what I'm attempting to do over a year ago (complete her first marathon), is also committed to supporting me in my journey, which I am forever grateful for.
Cancer has touched both Alex and I greatly. Alex's mother lost her battle to cancer in 2008. My father on the other hand was diagnosed with cancer this year, and became cancer free. Which we are still celebrating!
In the spirit of celebration and life, we want to support others who are determined to survive, live and thrive.
To this end, Alex and I ask that you support us in our run to help a family battling with cancer- the Newmans.
Mark was given a ten percent chance of living when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. With 2 young girls- Stella & Gwen and a beautiful wife- Lynne, he continues to fight his battle with cancer, and recently started an organization called Ten Percent, to help support the cost of treatments, as well as give back to other families battling with the disease.
Help bring meaning to this run for Alex and I, by donating to this worthy cause. Let's help Mark and others like him chose to be part of the ten percent who live.
