Sherri's Marathon Fundraiser Page

Want to join me in making a difference? I'm running the Boston Marathon this year and raising money for the North End Music And Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC)! Any donation will help make an impact. Your contribution to support this organization means so much to me!

I have been involved with this special organization for the last eight years, 3 of which were teaching and managing programs, and 5 of which were leading the org. as Executive Director. I've enjoyed creating new music programs for children and adults, refining old ones, inspiring students through music, and building relationships within the community through artistic experiences.

I was fortunate to experience music at a young age - beginning in elementary school where my music teacher said "wow, let's give Sherri a solo in the Lion King, she has a great voice!" With a recommendation from my teacher, Ms. Geraro, my parents signed me up for singing lessons and sent me along on my journey that led me to where I am today. I am thankful I was lucky enough to have parents that supported me, a teacher that encouraged me, and the resources to begin this journey.

In middle school and high school, I went on to take voice lessons and participate in a Saturday music theatre training program at the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford. My teachers, Robin Blauers and Mitch Piper helped shape me as a singer. My performance coach, Rae Tattenbaum, gave me the confidence, self-esteem, and preparedness that helped me get into almost every music conservatory or university I applied to! I continued my studies at Boston University in 2002 where I met some of the best friends I have to this day and was taught my some of Boston's greatest directors and teachers including Sarah Arneson, Dr. Ann Howard Jones, Allison Voss, Michelle Alexander, Tom Enman, and Sharon Daniels. All in all - I found my niche through encouragement and support - and I'm grateful for that push when I was in 5th grade to take up singing lessons.

And here I am today, striving to create that opportunity for others. Through my work at NEMPAC - I aim to impact the lives of youth so that they can have similar opportunities and be the best versions of themselves. Music gave me the abilities and tools to make responsible decisions, set goals for myself, and help others. I am so grateful I can wake up every day and know that the work I do will make a difference in someone else's life. You never know what struggles a child has in school, or at home, or in their own mind. And I hope (and I've seen!) that our music programs at NEMPAC and the faculty we have will help ease those struggles and bring positively and encouragement into a child's life.

NEMPAC has a thriving Children's Music Theatre program - involving 30-40 kids per year, and over 80 kids over the summer. We have over 220 students enrolled in our private music instruction program, which has doubled since 2015. We produce 20+ annual concerts, student recitals and special professional performance project including our Opera Project, Jazz in the Park free summer series, and more! And over the last few years, we've been on the search for a new facility space - a new 'home' for NEMPAC - which is in our near future.

I am running the Boston Marathon this year to support the organization, the kids, and the community that I am so passionate about! Thank you so much for your support! EVERY donation, no matter what size helps.
