Running Where I Once Felt Lost
Hi, I’m Dex. I’m running the Sheffield 10K to raise money for a charity that means a lot to me and this is why.
Cherrytree is a charity that supports young people aged 16–21 who are facing homelessness. They provide temporary supported accommodation and vital support during a time when young people are at their most vulnerable.
When you’re in that situation, it’s scary. You feel let down, invalidated, and unsure of who you can trust. Cherrytree is there to offer stability, guidance, and a safe place to begin rebuilding. It’s not just somewhere to stay, it’s a place where young people are seen, supported, and given the tools to move forward.
About a year ago, I became homeless. I had just turned 18 and was so overwhelmed with everything happening in my life. I was scared, and even though I had a couple of people around me, I felt alone. That's when I moved into Cherrytree.
It was scary at first, walking into the unknown but they met me where I was, with no judgment. They helped me when my world as I knew it stopped turning. They saw me at my lowest, and instead of giving up on me, they gave me a second chance. They helped me feel safe, seen, and like I actually mattered.
They were there as I gained independence, rebuilt my life, and started to move forward. I honestly don’t have the words to describe what they’ve done for me, it’s more than just a hostel, it’s a lifeline.
So to give back to the place that helped me find my feet, I’ve set myself a personal goal.
I’m going to run a 10K on 28th September 2025 to raise money for the place that literally taught me the biggest life lesson I never knew I needed. Because if they could pick me up when I was at my lowest, the least I can do is help them keep doing what they do supporting young people who still need that safety and support.
If you’re able to donate anything at all, please do. Everything will go to Cherrytree to help them continue changing lives, and helping more young people find their feet, just like they did for me.
Thank you so much for reading, supporting, and believing in second chances.
