Running to Raise Funds for Mawenzi Regional Hospital
0% complete
£740 raised of
34 donations
Last year as part of my nursing course at university I was lucky enough to complete my elective placement in Tanzania, at a hospital called Mawenzi Regional Hospital located in Moshi, a small village located at the base of the Kilimanjaro region.
Mawenzi Regional Hospital is a government run hospital located in the centre of Moshi that offers medical care to the majority of the population in the Kilimanjaro region - especially those who cannot afford private healthcare. It is one of the oldest hospitals in the country and serves as a referral Centre for all District hospitals and other peripheral health facilities in the region.
There are around 410 workers in total, with over 100 doctors (15 being specialist doctors), 40+ intern doctors, over 100 nurses and then general admin staff. A lack of resources and outdated equipment means simple and everyday tasks makes treatment difficult.
This experience was truly life changing not just professionally but also personally. This year I will be returning with my mum, this time as a qualified nurse and hope to raise funds to help improve conditions for patients and support access to better care, so as part of this I will be running the Manchester Half Marathon on the 12th October 2025 to give back to Mawenzi Hospital when we return this November.
With your support, we hope to raise money for:
Essential medical supplies (e.g. gloves, bandages, syringes)
Updated equipment to improve diagnosis and treatment
Resources to improve patient care and comfort
Even small donations can have a big impact in a hospital like Mawenzi — where every item can be put to urgent and meaningful use.
This fundraiser is my way of giving back to a community that opened my eyes to the realities of global healthcare inequality, and where I saw just how far compassion and effort can go, even with so little.
Please consider supporting us — whether through a donation or by sharing this campaign. Together, we can help make a meaningful difference and hope that you will follow me on my journey!
thank you so much,
Tilly x
