Hello, my name is Lucy and I’m running the London marathon 2024 in order to raise money for the compassionate friends charity in memory of my brother Michael. The charity support bereaved families, and they have been so beneficial to myself and my parents since we lost Michael. I don’t know where we would be today if we hadn’t had the support from them.

My brother Michael was hit by a car and killed in October 2021, and it changed our lives entirely. He was the greatest person, and loved by so many people. I didn’t know what I was going to do without my brother anymore. It was the worst thing imaginable, and at the time we had absolutely no idea what to do or where to turn to. We found the compassionate friends charity, and it helped me a lot. Being able to connect with other siblings who had gone through the same thing as me was invaluable.

I attended one of the bereaved siblings weekend retreats which the compassionate friends put on yearly, and it was a big turning point for me being able to deal with what had happened. By raising money for this incredible charity, they can continue to provide support like this to others who need it.

I have found that exercising is a great way to deal with grief, and since Michael died I started running a lot. When I got a place in the London Marathon I thought this would be a perfect way to raise money for a great cause, all while keeping Michael in my mind to push me through when it gets really tough.

You don’t realise how many people are affected in this way until it happens to you, so help me raise some money for this incredible charity, so that they can help more families deal with the worst loss imaginable.
