Running the Hastings Half Marathon for Alana Humphries
Donation protected
UPDATE: the Hastings Half Marathon has really sadly been cancelled last minute due to a police incident that has left part of the route closed. I’m not going to let this stop me however and will still be going the distance (although on a different route) tomorrow along with my uncle and cousin (in-law) Michael and Ollie Sanders.
I am running the Hastings Half Marathon on 23rd March and I am raising money for my friend’s nearly 3 year old daughter, Alana, who has type 1 diabetes.
My friend Luke has lived and worked with his family for a charity in Guatemala called Mission Guatemala for around 20 years. Mission Guatemala works with the Kaqchikel people in the town of Santiago, running a school and Church and providing all manner of support for some of the poorest families. I spent 3 life changing years working with them before going to uni.
Alana has type 1 diabetes and, with no free health care, the cost of medication puts a huge strain on their funds. They are voluntary workers who rely on sponsorship and donations for their living costs.
This will be the first half-marathon I have run. I started running last May and have gone from barely being able to finish a kilometre before having to stop to walk, to attempting this! I want to take the opportunity to raise some money for Alana as I know that it will be invaluable in taking the pressure off of their finances and help them continue the amazing work they are doing.
